As we breeze into Springtime and giggle past April Fools Day into Earth Month, I anchor my personal story and messaging around simple and thoughtful ways to care for our dear planet. Ever since I was a little child, I’ve shared deep empathy for the natural world around me … whether it was planting trees to preserve the Amazon, adopting endangered species through monthly giving, leading community cleanup and recycling initiatives, or pushing every single municipality from DC to France, Miami to California to implement climate forward programs, living consciously has played an integral role in my upbringing. I even wrote my college design thesis “Sustainability For Dummies: Going Green, Starts at Home.”
Atop being very climate-conscious and earthly sensitive, I am also a 21st Century American who is accustomed to certain standards of living, creature comforts, and quality of life. Making even simple changes in habits and patterns can be daunting, challenging, and bewildering. Like getting an electric car, for example … I really have no idea why I haven’t been able to make the switch yet, the charging stations are FREE, the government pays you $7500, and there are so many options available, it’s a no brainer (yet still paying enormously at the pump). Honestly, even preaching my own gospel is only feasible if it’s A] convenient B] affordable and C] easy. Like going zero-waste, carbon-neutral, not having to run errands or clip coupons to save cash on common household necessities. If only there was an answer to that simple conundrum …
